We're camping in France - WiFi is a bit intermittent on the site but is OK. However, neither myself or my husband can make or receive texts, messages or calls. We seem to have pressed all-sorts of settings and ñow have no idea what should be activated and what shouldn't. We particularly need to be in contact with our daughter who is flying over to join us in a couple of days. Please help.....

Thanks for coming to the community.
It may be that your account is not set up for roaming.
You can check this is activated and if not turn this on as below;
If you log into your My EE account online and go to Menu > Manage Device > Roaming Abroad > This will show as ticked if roaming is activated.
You will also need Call abroad & Premium rate showing as ticked.

No, sorry, that makes no difference. I've also tried sending ROAMING to 150 but that fails as well. I've also noticed that, although my phone says it is connected to the WiFi here, it then says it's out of range, yet the tablet is picking it up. I don't really want to be using 4G when I don't need to.

Does your My EE account show roaming as active?
Have you tried to manually connect to a network as below;
