I am in France and having recently upgraded my phone, I now have no access to roaming and no message etc from ee. There is no live chat and the customer service numbers do not work from my wife's phone (same phone, same 4gee, but it is ok for some reason).

Hi there. Sorry but I have just arrived in Portugal and I have no service. I have a 4GEE plan so I thought it would just work, my mistake.
Can someone please advise me on how to solve this when I can't access live chat and can't phone... basically can someone from EE help me?

...and there are no networks showing. My wife has the same handset and the same contract and she is able to use hers automatically. This is the first time I have used roaming since my service was switched to 4GEE with this new handset (from Orange on the last contract / handset on this number). I used the old handset with no problems.
