CAN use SMS, but cannot get/make CALLS

Im looking for a Guru, as the EE helpline cant help.

So this is odd?  I can receive SMSs, including all the EE auto sms about roaming, voice mail etc.

But i CANNOT make any calls, and all calls to me go straight to voicemail.

I have a pay-as-you-go SIM card  (was monthly, but i converted it to pay-as-go recently)

I am permanently abroad (Philippines).

My SIM is in an unlocked phone (a Uniherz Jelly-Pro, with Android 7) , but yes i have put it in other unlocked phones to try it, still no luck)

My roaming IS activated.

Any ideas, heard of this before ?

Alex

@ahorlock1 : Looks like you found 1 😉 . Could be 2 things:

  1. Were you abroad when your SIM was converted to PAYG? If so, you can't use it unless you return to UK. EE PAYG SIMs need to be activated on EE's home UK network.
  2. Do you have enough PAYG credit to make & receive calls outside the EU?

Re: CAN use SMS, but cannot get/make CALLS

thanks for the reply!

1. Yes i was abroad when i converted to PAYG. But the helpline assured me it would work and no need to activate the new SIM in UK.  Besides .. I DO receive SMS messages, )in fact i keep sending myself texts from friends phones jsut to text while i try work this out)

2. Credit .  shoul be yes, there's only about.  So should be able to get a call.

Re: CAN use SMS, but cannot get/make CALLS

2. No, it costs to receive calls outside EU.

As it is not in EU, you cannot use your usual allowances there but will need to pay the charges as set out in https://ee.co.uk/help/add-ons-benefits-and-plans/call-or-going-abroad/roaming-costs/countries/philip... .

Re: CAN use SMS, but cannot get/make CALLS

I get that !

But no, even with only the £ 10 i have credit i should be able to make or receive a call.

I think the problem is something to do with incompatibility with the local network/s.

Hi @ahorlock1

Welcome to the community.

The SIM card must have been registered and a text message sent or phone call made from it within the UK to unlock all roaming features.

This will be why it isn't working fully for you.
