I'm currently on a SIM only contract with EE and I have about 6 months left, though I am eligible for an upgrade. I found a plan on affordable-mobiles under EE for a Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus I'd like to transfer to; is it possible for EE to terminate my current plan so I could go ahead with this new one?

No sorry, the handset plan upgrade offer only applies if you were to upgrade directly with EE.
You should get £20 off the up-front handset cost though with this offer.
You are not able to upgrade with anyone else or switch to another SIM only plan until you reach your official contract end date.
If you where to switch to the plan offered elsewhere now, EE would charge you an early termination fee and you would have to pay those remaining 6 months off first.
Early termination fees also exclude plan discounts as well, so if you are currently on a discounted/special offer SIM only plan, EE would ask for the full monthly price before the discount as well.
Th only thing EE would do though is remove the 20% VAT from your 6 remaining months on your contract.
