I pay monthly and was told before I travelled that I won't have any problem using my phone abroad.

@Paullos42 Did you text roaming to 150 before leaving the UK ? If not login to your online EE account and enable roaming from there, also you probably want to enable Call abroad and premium rate numbers this can take 24 hours to activate but usually it’s only a few minutes try restarting your device after you’ve done this.

Are you able to try and manually search for available networks?
What phone are you using?

I can manually connect to networks, they register ok. the phone just won't make calls. Am using a Sony Xperia.
I've tried changing the call Barri ng but comes up with network error / sim card error.

Everyone in the party has a UK phone that works fine.
Am I right in assuming call barring is something that only ee can remove?
I can connect to at&t and t mobile.

Could you try texting UNBAR to 150?
If it still doesn't allow you to make calls, it will need to be removed by our Mobile Care team.
