I had been using a EE flex plan or PAYG for 1 month from oct 19 to nov 19 then i moved to south east asia and didn't top up my credit. Now in feb 2020 i topped up 5 pound and also bought 10 pound flex plan over internet but when i put the sim in my phone it shows only emergency calls and no network was detecting. Just to cross check i tried my other prepaid roaming numbers and all are working fine except this EE sim.
I am not sure whether the sim has expired! which is very unlikely as i topped up with in 6 month period time before sim get expired or this is a technical issue.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

I have similar problem. I`m abroad with UK PAYG EE sim card, kept topping it up in a while. Today insterted sim card, it shows network coverage with R (roaming), topped up 5 GBP, but not able to make or receive calls or sms. How do I proceed?

No idea, some 5 or 6 months ago. I can see I have 5 GBP credit (on my EE account here on website). When I try to make a phone call it says "Sorry, outgoing calls are blocked". But I do have signal (roaming mode), which is strange. Thank you.

Just tried calling that number. It asked me to enter my number, once I did that, it said "Great, you can call us on 150" and then it goes into countless voice menus and messages where I cannot get to talk to human being. I cannot dial 150 from abroad.

Just spoke with customer service, yes it was hibernation, all unlocked. Thank you.

I used the flex plan sim with same phone from 14 oct to 14 nov before i moved out of UK. So technically the sim should be alive till now but i am not getting any signal even after topup. I will be visiting UK soon within few days and i guess i have to buy another sim.
What a waste of money!

After trying several options finally called customer care from overseas. Followed their instruction by restarting the phone and tried to use the Sim in single slot but still I was unable to get any roaming signal.
Finally I got the network when I reached London. Anyway this is a relief for me that I didn't waste my topup and flex plan. Phewwuuu...
