My 93 year old mother has a mobile that she uses about once a month. How does she top it up? She has bought a top up card for £1 but hasn't put any money on it. The info that came with the card implied that she has to top it up with a minimum of £10 but that will expire after 30 days. Are there any other options to top it up with say £5 and for that to stay on the phone for as long as she doesn't use it.

You will need to choose a pack, then text STOP PACK to 150, this will revert the SIM to traditional PAYG once the pack has run out.
You just need to remember the rules around hibernation.
To check the pack you have use the MyEE app.

@Lobby To have a standard PAYG the doesn’t use packs that last 30 days you need to from the device in question text STOP PACK to 150 before you add credit for the first time this will then just use credit for calls and texts from now on. A call/text needs to be made every 2 months to keep the sim card active and to stop SIM card hibernation. Please read THIS about Sim card hibernation and how to avoid it.
There are a few ways to top up a PAYG sim please read THIS,
