Got a text from 1024 telling me my data has been used up and to text to top up.

I have checked my EE app and have text EE on 150 and I still have plenty of data left. Is this a scam or genuine text?

Hi Everyone,

Welcome to the EE Community.

We’re aware that a small number of customers have been sent this text in error.

This won’t affect your data allowance. Sorry for the inconvenience.

So you now accept that it went out to a few.

But only place that info appears is on a support forum , no response from @EE team on twitter , who still have not acknowledged this.

This is the second such ''mistake'' , the last one i received was a ''your plan has changed'' , which was never explained with an official answer or apology.

Standard cut and paste answer on twitter by DM

quote: Thank you, there was a small number of customers that had been sent this text in error. It wouldn't have affected your data allowance. If you copy and paste this link ee.co.uk/help/live-chat into your internet browser, it'll connect you with our chat team who'll be more than happy to advise you best on the add-on you've purchased. They are open until 8pm tonight. -

it wasn't an addon , it was part of my contract , proves no-one reads the questions, just cuts and pastes corporate answers.

wonder how quickly they would respond if '' a small number of users didn't pay their bill on time, it won't affect EE's profits '' was the customers response

Re: Got a text from 1024 telling me my data has been used up and to text to top

Hi EE,

i see that a a few customers received this text on Thursday last week. I recieved one on Saturday morning on my work phone and neither of the other 2 phones on the contract received this. Having checked the EE app we had 49gb left. Is this likely to be the same issue as above. Customers services didn't seem to be aware of the text or any issue with the data

thanks

Hi @JBrads29 and welcome to the community.

Are you able to connect to the internet currently, without using WiFi?

Many thanks,

Lee

Re: Got a text from 1024 telling me my data has been used up and to text to top

Hi,

yes I am. When I recieved the text the internet seemed froze for about 30 minutes (coincidence baby). Restarted phone a few times and it works fine again. I just found it odd as we basically have unlimited data and I was the only one to receive text when as a joint account we normally get things like this at the same time

many thanks

Hi @JBrads29

I will certainly keep an eye out for any further reports.

For now I would just put this down to an error.

Many thanks,

Lee

Just received the same text from 1024 telling me I'd run out of data and to top up for £1.99. I checked on MY EE app and I still have ~12GB available!

I called EE and they were unable to find out what the 1024 number was. I'm glad this is just an error.

I have received the same text today (8th Aug 2017) but when I check online I have 14.4 GB left from 15GB. I would assume the text is scam but for the fact it correctly quotes my allowance refresh date.

What's going on?

That's what I noticed too. It correctly quotes my allowance refresh date. I called EE and they have flagged the number

Hi @rogerblack and @Dani27

Thanks for dropping by the community. 🙂

Are you still able to use your mobile internet services? Apps, browsers etc.

Please also double check your allowance on our add-on status help page.

Look forward to hearing from you both.

Chris 🙂

Hi Chris,

Yep, mobile Internet seems to be working fine. I've checked on My EE app and I still have plenty of data left.

Re: Got a text from 1024 telling me my data has been used up and to text to top

Thanks for getting back to me @Dani27

As long as your allowance shows and you're able to use your data, there's nothing to worry about.

The text message was from us and it seems it was sent in error.

Apologies for any confusion or inconvenience. 🙂

Re: Got a text from 1024 telling me my data has been used up and to text to top

I've been chatting about this with my friend this morning and he mentioned that his son got the message and also was cut off also despite there being plenty of data left in his allowance.

I just said call 150 and get them to sort it out.

Thanks for sharing this @uvarvu

That sounds unusual and I would recommend the same if anyone received this message from us and were unable to use their allowance 🙂

Re: Got a text from 1024 telling me my data has been used up and to text to top

Hi Chris,

That's good to know, but when I called EE they were really confused and could not track down the number (1024). Surely if it was sent by EE then you would recognise the number.

The advisor also confirmed that the number did not appear on the system of text messages EE has sent to me. She told me EE last sent me a text on 2nd August, but this text message was sent yesterday.

Can you please look into this further because if there is confusion as to whether this was sent by EE, then you need to explore the possibility that it may have been sent by a third party
