Carphone Warehouse are now selling SIM free 4g versions of the Galaxy Watch. They also have preorders for the new 4g galaxy watch active 2.
However unlike the sim free Apple Watch, EE are refusing to connect up these watches saying they have to be bought direct.
This is going to cause a lot of confusion and problems as Carphone warehouse are not saying this.
Is there a way around it or have I been misinformed by EE?

Samsung experience stores like the one in oxford street are also selling the watch sim free believing EE will connect them up for 5 quid a month.

We currently we don't have a standalone plan for the Samsung Watch. This will need to be purchased through EE.
Your Samsung Watch and Samsung Phone will also need to be on the same account.

Thanks for the reply. Can I request this be reviewed? With UK stores now selling this sim free there are going to be many who run into this.

I can pass your feedback on to the relevant team and see if this is something that is being considered.
Thanks for your suggestion.

EE hasn't misinformed you. Car phone warehouse has.
They shouldnt be selling them and telling people to come to EE for a plan. They should know they can't.
EE needs to review this yes but they are not misinformation anyone over this.

@BrendonH the weird thing is why are Samsung supplying CPW in the first place. This is genuine UK stock with UK power adapter.

Because EE no longer has exclusivity to sell the watch.
But that doesn't mean EE have to supply a standalone tariff.

They don’t have to sure but it would make sense that they do if the watch is freely available , just like EE do with the Apple Watch

Forget about the Apple watch they are a different company and they didnt have exclusivity.

Samsung themselves are selling the new active 2 smartwatch with 4g sim free directly. No mention of which networks it will work with.

I am having exactly the same issue. I purchased my Active 2 4G directly from Samsung. I have an EE account with a Samsung Note 9 and thought I could just connect the watch to it. Samsung are investigating the matter as they weren't aware that this was the EE policy. EE have told me that I need to have purchased it directly from them to use the 4G feature otherwise it's just bluetooth on a very expensive watch. I am absolutely appalled by this and await Samsungs findings from their investigation which will take 3-5 days starting on 04/10/19.

Unfortunately Samsung have not been able to resolve the issue and I have returned the watch to them to day for a full refund. To be completely honest, Samsung were very hard work and I feel like making an official complaint. At one point I was even told by one of their representatives that they don't sell the 4G watch only the Bluetooth version!!

@James_B Thank you for this good news!
I can confirm I now have my 46mm LTE watch up and running. The current process requires you to call because the plan has to be setup manually using the watch EID and IMEI number. After a short while if you then go to add mobile network in the Wear app on the phone it no longer gives an error and adds successfully .

@Harri72Side topic but Samsung UK only seem to sell the steel/leather Active 2 version with 4G. But Samsung Europe sells the steel/leather without 4G. Amazon UK sell this non 4G version. Just thought to mention it.
