Contract ends soon

My contract ends soon but I am in Australia so won’t be getting an upgrade. What are my options? Can I carry on paying what I am currently paying, or do I just cancel and get a SIM card over here?

You may do either. These contracts don't just end. After the min. term they just carry on on a rolling month's notice basis until you explicitly cancel or upgrade.
