The contract can be ended, You will need to contact EE and ask for the specialist omplex team that deals with situations like this.
They will want to see the death certificate most likely.
They may even allow you to transfer the contract onto someone else (albeit passing a credit check)

We certainly don't request the death certificate.

@Lee_H good to know you don't need a death certificate. I know some places do so thought it may be the same here
