Use of Orange POP3 and SMTP after email closure

When I connect on BB I have issue sending work emails, receiving is no issue.This is currently solved by using smtp.orangehome.co.uk and simply noting the reply address as my work account.

This solution will not work post 31st May as I understand the email servers are to be removed. Question is: Is this a restriction of the BB service or an issue with my own SMTP / provider?

@coffeefiend:

  1. Until recently the EE BB network blocked use of all Port 25 SMTPs other than its own. Therefore your firm's SMTP was blocked & you were forced to use EE's own SMTP.
  2. At my urging upon the email closure, EE have removed this block about 2-3 weeks ago. Therefore you can now use your firm's SMTP over EE BB. Try it!

On 31 May when email closes, everything goes, your mailbox, SMTP & POP3 servers & all.

 

Your issue may only be with your email provider now. Who are they & who is your ISP?

Thank you that is very clear. The fact that I cannot use SMTP from my work server is an issue with them and not a restriction on the BB connection?

Very kind, but it is a small company and unknown to almost everyone 🙂 I am not comfortable posting information here. I can use thier SMTP and POP3 from hotspot sites and client "guest" networks and I am now nervous about being unable to work from home.  Perhaps I need to upgrade to exchange!?

OK, Np. You can still tell me whether your firm's SMTP only uses Port 25 and who your home, I presume, BB is with? I'm pretty sure I know what was happening & what it will do in the future, but I need those 2 facts confirmed. Thanks.

That is good news. You are right, using port 25. I am using EE BB, although originally Orange and using orange SMTP/POP3 for Outlook sync of email.
