Looks like it's happening to me too. After several years of a great connection and speeds of around 12mbs, last Sunday (6 July), we were unable to maintain a connection for more than a few minutes. It's improved then only disconnecting every hour or so but the speed has nosedived and is getting slower all the time - down to 2mbs on Saturday, 1mbs yesterday and just 0.5mbs this morning.
Several long phone calls have resulted in me having to move my router, unscrew phone points, and being told to look for a master phone socket that we do not have. It's driving me mad.
Would the fact that BT are doing fibre optic work in the area have any impact on speeds from the exchange? And I will happily admit I don't understand how these things work - I just want to switch my pc on and enjoy browsing at decent speeds!

Just to update EE have sent BT openreach round who found defective connections in the street and have fixed it. Line speed now excellent. One happy customer here!

I have found our rate dire in recent months and desperate most recently. Despite the line being good for 2.5Mbps when line tests are run I cannot recall seeing more than 1Mbps from EE, and now it fluctuates between timing out on any internet acces or 0.1Mbps, according to Broadband Speed Checker, I've resited the ADSL Modem to the house point of entry, but to no benefit. Finding who to call when your available bandwidth is practically in the Dial Up era is no fun at all. For some reason, I have a much higher Upload speed than download speed according to the line checker.

Speed of the internet should be:
-EE Broadband average speeds are upto 17Mb/sec
-EE Fibre average speeds are upto 76Mb/sec
If the spedd is less than the above mentioned description, then it might be due to disturbance in the phone lines, or it may be modem problem. For better advice you must visit EE Customer service.
[Mod edit: We have edited the link above to show the correct contact numbers for EE customer service. Thanks]

@austingrace: By "disturbance in the phone lines" you actually meant to say "distance from exchange or cab".
