Using own router and modem instead of BrightBox 2

Hi EE,

I would like to use my own router and modem instead of the BrightBox 2 that I have currently. I've read some previous threads on using your own modem and router and even going as far as getting the modem credentials.

That only thing now that has confused me is the modem. I saw one thread which explained that I have to use a BT Openreach Huawei Modem and another thread/article that said it is better to just change the settings on the BrightBox 2 to enable it into modem mode (which I don't want).

I would like to know what modem do I need to buy in order to use my own modem + router?

Re: Using own router and modem instead of BrightBox 2

Why a separate modem & router? Why not just get a combined ADSL/VDSL modem/router?

Home Broadband settings has everything you need to set up your own router.
