Speed suddenly slowed

Good afternoon

For a few days now the download steed of my Mum’s internet connection has been extremely poor. Resetting the router hasn’t helped. It has dropped from an average max download speed of 2.2Megabytes per sec to around a max 120KB/s now.

Re: Speed suddenly slowed

Hi @hawkmoon83.

Thanks for coming to the community.

To the best of your knowledge, has there been any environmental changes in her home?

Something placed close to the router maybe?

Re: Speed suddenly slowed

Thanks! She is getting far slower than she should be. There have been 34 discons in the last 40 hours. Does she keep rebooting the router? It shouldn't be done too often else the line will seem unstable.

Has she noticed any work being done at the cab or in the neighbourhood recently?

Reboot the router & try plugging it into the hidden test socket that is revealed when you remove the bottom half of the split faceplate (2 screws or press tabs) of your master socket. Only do this if you have a split faceplate. Do you have any extension sockets in the home even if unused? Are there any wires connected to back of faceplate of master socket?

Try the BT Quiet Line Test (dial 17070 Opt 2), preferably with a corded phone, in the test socket with the router disconnected. If there is any noise, report it to your landline provider as a voice fault (don't mention Broadband). Often sorting out voice faults will fix the Broadband as well.

Post the full router stats & System Uptime when plugged into test socket.

Re: Speed suddenly slowed

Thank you for your quick responses.  I have got through to EE by phone and the young lady has told me she has discovered something on the line, and they'll be contacting a BT engineer who will be looking at it in next 24-48 hours. Should that not clear the problem, I'll try your suggestions next. Many thanks.
