Re: How do I switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz frequency on my smart hub router

Can you please help me switch the device called “local host” (my tv) from 2.4ghz to 5ghz? The first screen shot shows the settings for my hub, the second shows the settings for the tv. I can’t work out how to switch it from one frequency to the other. Is it predetermined by the device itself? TIA!

Re: How do I switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz frequency on my smart hub router

If you don't see the 5 GHz SSID in the TV's list of WiFi networks, it only does the 2.4 GHz band. What model TV is it? I run my TV quite happily on 2.4 GHz.

5 GHz might be a slightly stronger signal but has a lesser range.

Oops sorry! I’ve tried but now the system won’t let me, telling me there’s invalid HTML in the post... I’m using an iPad and will try from my laptop.

Trying again and including my original post for clarity:

Re: How do I switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz frequency on my smart hub router

Perhaps someone could answer the last question for me?

Is it [the frequency - 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz] predetermined by the device itself?

Re: How do I switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz frequency on my smart hub router

Hi @Weebawbee

Just go through the WiFi set-up process on your TV again, but connect to your 2.4 SSID rather than the 5 SSID.

Thanks

Yes, but only in the sense that some TVs can do either but older ones might only do the 2.4 GHz band.

The EE SH has both bands but uses the same SSID for them so they can't be easily distinguished.

For an EE Smart Hub try separating the wireless channels. On the Advanced / Wireless Settings page of the SH there is a button near the top to Separate the Bands. Turn it ON. Then the 5GHz SSID will appear starting with "5GHz-" & the 2.4 GHz SSID not starting with "5GHz-". Then connect the TV to the 2.4 GHz SSID if it can't do 5GHz.

Re: How do I switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz frequency on my smart hub router

Having done that, it’s now put all my devices onto 2.4Ghz! I’ve no idea how to move them onto 5Ghz, back to the original question.

Re: How do I switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz frequency on my smart hub router

I don't think "localhost" would be the name given to your TV. What is its IP addy? Is it 127.0 0.1?

Can you show me the network settings for the TV itself?

Sorry, which is the right page you should've looked at?

Look in the list of WiFi networks seen by each device & connect to router's SSID that starts with "5GHz-", if it is there.

Re: How do I switch from 2.4ghz to 5ghz frequency on my smart hub router

I was looking at the Network page and not the Wireless one.

“Localhost” is definitely my tv, I identified it by the ip.

Since I last wrote, I’ve separated the bands and switched 2.4Ghz off to see if my tv could recognise the 5Ghz version of the EE hub network as my iPad did. My tv didn’t recognise it so I’m assuming my tv model doesn’t support 5Ghz. I’ve tried to find out online if it does with no luck so presumably it doesn’t and 2.4Ghz is the default.

I have a friend who had a huge improvement in his 4K viewing when he switched the tv to 5Ghz and I was trying to follow his example. Looks like I’ll have to make do with what I’ve got.

My tv’s a Samsung UE43NU7020. I’m just trying to optimise things because my broadband is too slow for 4K!
