Random high ping fluctuations from ~30 to ~1500, please help!

So essentially what I have said in the title, we have recently been experiencing significant fluctuations in ping and internet speed for no identifiable reason. W ehave tried moving the router, obviously performed a few router resets. We also experience the same issue with a wired connection. Furthermore, even when connected by ethernet the speed does not seem to increase nor the ping that if using wifi. We have called EE and they did not offer a solution other than to check for any interference (although nothing has changed in the setup since this has begun happening) and they have sent out a new router.

It does not seem to occur with any particular regularity, being stable at a low ms for even an hour then being bad for only 5 mins or vice versa. It is really frustrating for gaming and we are not sure what to do.

Thanks for reading!

Your high pings will not caused by the router or your WiFi but by outside influences. Where are you getting high pings to?

Please post your ping to BBC.com.

Pinging bbc.com [151.101.0.81] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 151.101.0.81: bytes=32 time=1034ms TTL=56
Reply from 151.101.0.81: bytes=32 time=1041ms TTL=56
Reply from 151.101.0.81: bytes=32 time=1038ms TTL=56
Reply from 151.101.0.81: bytes=32 time=1012ms TTL=56

Ping statistics for 151.101.0.81:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 1012ms, Maximum = 1041ms, Average = 1031ms

This is actually it being better than usual though. We were told over the phone that their tests didn't return anything wrong unfortunately so I don't know what is left to do

Is that over Ethernet or WiFi?

In that case it was over wifi. Yesterday, we tried it over ethernet and it made no difference unfortunately

Re: Random high ping fluctuations from ~30 to ~1500, please help!

I did not expect those slow speeds to the BBC. I was just gonna use it as a benchmark.

If you would like help with your BB speed or connection issues, please would you carry out the following steps for starters, which will enable us to diagnose the problem and advise you further. Do not restart your router to do these tests:

1. Post your full router stats.

For a BrightBox: login and go to Advanced Settings/ System/ DSL Status. Also post 'System Uptime' from top of System Log page.

For a SmartHub: login and go to Advanced Settings/ Technical Log/ Information.

Full router stats are key to any speed & connection issues.

2. Try a wired speedtest, using an Ethernet cable supplied with the router, here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html . Click on the "Results Page" button at the bottom of the graph you first see and then copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link that you see below the next main graph.

3. What exchange are you connected to? If you don't know use: http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange_search and post the URL of your exchange page.

There's nowt wrong with your BB. Your traffic seems to be delayed within the BT backhaul. Did the tracert not complete?

Put your postcode in Local network status checker .
