Does anyone know if I can use OpenVpn to access my ee smart hub for the purpose of accessing my Hikvision IP cameras from outside of my home network. If so what settings do I need to enter in the hub and on the profile page in the android open vpn client. The router suggests it suports VPN connections but I can't see where to set it up,

Can't you use port forwarding & a DDNS to access the ports of your camera?
I believe the EE SH does cater for VPNs but only outbound but I don't have mine up at the mo' to check.

Yes I have ddns working but had read that VPN was more secure?

Even if you can use VPN from outside you will still need a DDNS to deal with the variability of your public IP addy.

Thanks, it does make sense as I was wondering how this would work with a VPN. I suppose the other way to make it more secure is change the default ports that the camera system uses,

Yes, my IP's camera default viewing port was 80, which being common is risky. So I changed it to much higher.
Doesn't the camera's manufacturer provide a cloud-based solution that does not require you to access your public IP from outside?

Yes they do - Hik-connect but I'm finding it a bit flakey. I'll persevere with my current setup and maybe change port 80 to something else as suggested. Only had the cameras in a week so still finding my way round all the settings and options. Thanks for your help.

Thanks! You're welcome :)! Glad I could be of assistance.
One of these options may help you find the answers you need.
