New EErouter constantly going to red and dropping internet

we are on a country  landline which is of course slow

Im used to that but the net keeps dropping. EE sent me a new router brightbox and its actually worse than my last router It drops the signal at least 10 times a day and i have to reboot. The previous box only did that every couple of days. I was assured that the new one would be better but it is worse.

My mobile phone is over ,my monthly limit as the home bb has dropped so often

Hi I'm not sure how to tell. It has 4 lights down the front in the middle
It says bright box R wireless router on it

sits up on its end as against its predecessor which lay flat

Seriously I am an old woman 

I dont know where the main phone line comes in or which is the first socket and I doubt id be able to get up from the floor if i looked under the desk for a plug!

But why when the old one was tolerable is the new one so much worse?

Thanks I phoned and they seeme to have found a line fault so ill keep fingers crossed it can be fixed in the next few days
