Is my broadband speed being lowered?

Hi, just wanting to know if my broadband speed is being deliberately slowed down?

I have the faster fibre package, these are my router stats:

Data rate:18.50 Mbps / 35.00 Mbps
Maximum data rate:18.50 Mbps / 59.76 Mbps
Noise margin (up/down):6.2 / 14.2
Line attenuation (up/down):21.4 / 16.7
Signal attenuation (up/down):20.6 / 16.2

Many thanks in advance

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

Could well be! How long have you had Fibre Plus BB with EE? Have you ever seen it significantly faster? When?

What does BT Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker

What are all EE's contractual speed estimates given in your MyEE for BB under Your broadband speed ?

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

Hi XRaySpeX, I've had EE broadband since about June/July last year.

Up until about December my downstream used to be close to 70Mbps, so I know it does go faster than it is at the moment. Any advice would be very welcome, thanks.

I can't seem to copy and paste the table from the broadband availability checker?

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

You should be able to. It might come out messy but we are used to it.

Better still can't you post an image using the Photo button above your reply?

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

Thanks. It does look like you are not currently getting what you should. Was there any work done on your line or in the neighbourhood around Dec. when this all started?

Reboot the router & try plugging it into the hidden test socket that is revealed when you remove the bottom half of the split faceplate (2 screws or press tabs) of your master socket. Only do this if you have a split faceplate. Do you have any extension sockets in the home even if unused? Are there any wires connected to back of faceplate of master socket?

Try the BT Quiet Line Test (dial 17070 Opt 2), preferably with a corded phone, in the test socket with the router disconnected. If there is any noise, report it to your landline provider as a voice fault (don't mention Broadband). Often sorting out voice faults will fix the Broadband as well.

Post the full router stats & System Uptime when plugged into test socket.

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

Unfortunatley I have one of the old BT sockets, was suprised at the time they didn't change it.

As far as I know there hasn't been any work done on the line, and having done the quiet line test there's no noise on the line at all. Thanks.

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

Even so are there any other phone extensions in the home? It might be worth asking EE to "normalise" your master socket to a modern NTE5.

The DLM system has put you on a banded profile presumably in response to past errors on your line, at the top of the up to 35 Meg band of these VDSL Banded Profiles, altho' you now have no significant errors. You need to give the DLM time to relent & remove any banding. If your sync speed at the test socket remains stuck at the same speed for 10 days you should ask EE to investigate the underlying fault. If a fault is found and fixed then the OR engineer may request a DLM reset. However should significant errors persist the DLM will reapply banding.

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

So is it possible the DLM has become stuck?

All I know is my sync used to happily sit at 65-70Mbps, and in the last couple of months or so hasn't gone above 49Mbps. It's now the lowest it ever has been.

I have no other extensions in the home at all.

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

It sometimes, rarely, happens with VDSL; used to be more so with ADSL.

At the mo' your sync speed equals EE's Guaranteed Min. (which I can't think where they dredged that up from; according to BTw it should be 50 Meg). Once it it drops below you'd be justified in demanding EE fix it & reset the DLM regardless.

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

That's more like it! So you managed to get EE to "normalise" your master socket? Well done!

Re: Is my broadband speed being lowered?

Yes, the engineer took one look at the socket and decided to change it. I guess the rewiring may have helped things...
