Improve ADSL line speeds

Hi there,

i was told by @XRaySpeX to start a new thread about this. Let’s hope we can at least get it a bit better! Here’s the current router stats. The sync speeds does say 3.2 downstream although I have done a speed test on Ethernet and it’s coming at around 2.6 at max DAFA98F2-751F-4CD1-8F7B-C37B556F3808.jpegC2CA3262-13F5-4120-9456-7C02D18FD7B4.png

Re: Improve ADSL line speeds

You are actually getting sync speeds of about what you should (& faster than previously).

1. Try a wired speedtest here http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedtest.html and copy to here just the "Link to this result:" link.

2. Check your IP Profile. Run the BT Wholesale Performance Test, (ignoring all the red instructions), and on the initial results page click Further diagnostics at the bottom. The IP Profile is given in the text box.

Re: Improve ADSL line speeds

Yes. IP Profile is as expected & consistent with your sync speed. You are getting about as good you can get on ADSL Max at the mo'.

Trouble with ADSL Max is that your IP Profile, which limits your throughput, goes up in steps with bands of sync speeds. Your sync speed, 3264 K, is near the top of the band for an IPP of 2.5 Meg. Only if & when your sync speed rises to 3424 K will you go into the band for an IPP of 3 Meg when you should get speedtests just below 3 Meg.

Your best hope for that is that your Down Target NM is currently 6 dB. If you line stays stable the DLM could reduce your Down Target NM down to 3 dB with resultant increase of sync speed. Then you should get a sync speed of  3424+ K & an IPP of 3 Meg.

Re: Improve ADSL line speeds

Okay that makes sense. Is there no way of manually setting the down target NM to 3dB? It does also state in the disgnostics that the achievable spees is 7.15Mbps. It's now sitting at around 4.9 - 5 dB

Where does it state that? You're never gonna get faster than about 3.5 Meg on that line.

When the BB syncs the DLM applies the Target NM, currently 6 dB. Thereafter the NM wanders up & down, the 4.9 - 5 dB you see, as the incident noise varies, but it's not gonna wander far from 6 dB.

Yes, get hold of a router, e.g. Netgear DG834GT, where you can tweak NM yourself. You could find it complicated.

Re: Improve ADSL line speeds

In the same bit that i got the IP Profile it states that the line can get up to 7.15. (0.6 -7.15)

But alright i see, i'll have a look and see if i can afford to get a new router to do so.

1. Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.

 Download  Speed
 1.18 Mbps

0 Mbps7.15 Mbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1.18 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.6 Mbps-7.15 Mbps.
 Additional Information:
 Your DSL Connection Rate :2.94 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2.5 Mbps
