I have a smart hub from a friend .Can I use it in stead of my brightbox

I have a smart hub from a friend.  I want to use it to get better range than my current router which is a brightbox.

I have done a factory reset and when I plug it in it gets the Aqua light after a couple of minutes. and I can connect but shortly after it goes to red light status. This is the second Smart Hub to do this.

Is there a restriction on doing this?  Both smart hubs were working fine .

@Nanc1  The smart hub is registered to your friends account still is the property of EE,  your friend has to return this to EE or they might be charged for it.    The device can not be re-registered to you or your account.

Is this for ADSL BB or Fibre? Which BrightBox 1 or 2 do you have? The Smart Hub does not work well on ADSL.

Then don't use the SH on it. It is far weaker functionally than the BrightBox anyway.
