How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Hi,

I understand this is one of those "how long is a piece of string" questions but any help is appreciated.

Recently our cabinet was fttc enabled and on Thursday this week the openreach tracker said superfast is ready to order. Our neighbor has now been able to obain speeds over 40Mbps. I've checked with various ISP's including EE because of their recent fibre advertisments however everyone is saying we cannot obatin superfast speeds.

While none have given me a clear answer, most seem to be saying that if we go onto fibre now the speeds will be worse than they are now (currently we're on 5/2). I'm not sure why this is as the cabinet we come off of is at most 700m away and as far as I am aware only one person is currently coming off it.

Could anyone offer me any insight?

Thank you.

Ah, we crossed. Ugh! You can get FTTC, but it's not v. fast; slower than ADSL. I thought this new Cab 9 was supposed to be nearer than the old Cab 3. Surprising!

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

You can't go by the OR Tracker. They only build the infrastructure but don't put it on the market. That's BT wholesale.

What does BT Broadband Availability Checker estimate for your phone number? Post just the whole table and the line above it, blanking out your phone number. If it doesn't recognise your phone number, use the Address Checker, not the Postcode Checker.

Here is what it shows. Number wasn't recognised so I used the address tracker as requested.

Thanks for the response.

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Thanks. Your cab has no FTTC yet. It looks like it's running at least about 2 months late. Now do the same for the neighbour's addy that is getting FTTC.

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Why didn't the BTw Checker recognise your phone no? Don't you have phone from a BT-based ISP? Who is your current ISP?

You can't be getting currently 5/2 Meg from ADSL. More like 5/1?

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Alright, done some more experimenting.

If I put my neighbors address here is the result I get:

Example 1.PNG

What's odd here is that Cabinet 3 is over 2km away so he should not be getting these speeds (although it is FTTC enabled). Not only that, my household use to come off that cabinet until number 9 was installed, so it's odd they wouldn't be moved. I have tried another house on the street and recieved the same as my result:

example 2.PNG

In regards to my number not being recognised, we moved it from a different house so it may just be that we have a different "true" number that I can't remember off the top of my head.

Fianlly, more like 5 0.5 ... I really want FTTC 😞

Thanks for your help so far!

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Who is your current ISP? When you dial 1470 17070 what no. does it announce as your circuit?

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

My current ISP is TalkTalk. When I dialed the number you gave it said the circuit is the same as the home number that dosen't work.

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Ah, Ok, that explains that. TT is an LLU ISP, i.e. it is not BT-based but has its own kit in the exchange. The BTw Checker does not recognise such nos.

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

There is currently also a known issue with the BT availability checker in that it's no longer showing FTTC availability for anyone, even if they already have it!

Thinkbroadband have mentioned it.

Just tried it here and it's the same for me, showing I cannot get FTTC even though I already have it.

We better hang fire on this until the BTw Checker is repaired for FTTC. Any conclusions reached today might be invalidated. GIGO! Smiley Wink

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Alright, it appears to be fixed!Example 4.PNG

So good news is everything is correctly displaying, bad news is that the speeds are abysmal. I have no clue why this is and according to TalkTalk I wouldn't be able to order it from them regardless as they would be breaking the law.

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Well, the BTw Checker has got back its FTTC. Can you repeat your results for you & neighbour? You might as well try the ISPs again as they are only going by the BTw Checker & then massaging the results to their own ends.

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

It is closer. I'm somewhat stuck on this as well.

I've tried the neighbor again and it's still saying he is off the wrong cabinet:Example 5.PNG

I've also tried the third property:

example 3.PNG

I've had a chat with the neighbor on superfast. He claims that he has been paying for superfast speeds for years now, despite not being able to get them. It could just be that he has been paying since before the new guidlines were in place which is why I can't order.

Have you walked down to the cab near you & checked the no. painted on it?

Yep! Either they sprayed the wrong number on it or that is cabinet 9.

Re: How long will it be until I can order Superfast Broadband?

Funny that your speeds from Cab 9:

  • = your neighbour's from Cab 3
  • but half those of 3rd property from same cab as you.

Have you got neighbour's phone no? Can you try it with that?
