I just switched my parents to EE Broadband. Every device they have, and mine, have connected, first time and without problems, to the new hub.
Except their laptop, which is running Linux Mint.
That just keeps asking for the password, which has already been entered correctly. The laptop connected to the old BT hub without problem.
I've tried making the laptop forget the network then reconnecting, and I've restarted it. All to no avail.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Selecting the router's SSID from the list of WiFi netwoks & typing in its WiFi password should work from any device.
If you have the Brighbox 2, have you tried both the 5 GHz & 2.4 GHz bands?

Yes, it should do, but it does not.
5 GHz is not an option; the laptop (~ six years old) does not recognise it.

The router is a BrightBox2, delivered from EE a few days ago. The laptop is running Mint 18.1, 64 bit, with Cmmamon 3.2.7.
