Fibre - fast speeds to router, but slow wifi

I have an EE fibre broadband package that delivers 40mb/s all the way to my router, but my actual download speeds over wi-fi are never faster than 4 or 5mb/s.

I have been through all speed tests and diagnostics with the EE tech team (optimised channels in router settings, cleared frequencies of all but one active device, used both 2.4 and 5ghz networks) all to no avail. They defaulted to the small print of the contract stating they can only guarantee speeds to the router and no further, even though they supplied the router!

So I am at the mercy of the EE community for help. Help!!

What can i do to get a decent speed through the router and out to my wi-fi devices?

Many thanks!
