Hi There,
I will be flying to Perth in a few days and will then travel by car to remote parts of Western Australia (e.g. Exmouth, Coral Bay, Kennedy Range National Park, Monkey Mia etc). From my research, I note that I will have no signal in between towns/in the outback but people say that Telstra in Australia has the best coverage out of all telcos and their covergae map also indicates so.
I am currently on a pay monthtly (sim only) 4G EE Max Plan (30GB) and note that my plan includes roaming in Australia (incl data). I was wondering whether it is an option for me select the Telstra network when i get to Australia?
Many thanks in advance for your response.
Cheers,
Chezza

Hi and welcome to the community @cherrysclau
You can use Optus and Telstra whilst in Australia by performing a manual network search.
But as Northerner has said the automatic search will pick the best available.
Are you heading for the Ashes?
Many thanks,
Lee

Hi,
Roaming on Max plans only applies to tariffs taken out after 10th May 2017. Please ensure you have text ROAMING to 150 to ensure it's activated before you leave the UK.
What phone do you have? Also unless you have any issues I would suggest you allow auto network connection.
Thanks

Many thanks @Northerner and @Lee_H for your response.
I did take out my Max Plan after 10 May 2017 so I am covered which is great news!
I am currently using an iPhone 6 - will try and manually select Telstra (or if not possible then will just try auto network connection to get what is available).
I am actually doing a camping roadtrip all the way from north to south so just want to be well prepared for the remote areas and make sure i get a phone signal as my camper rental company does not supply Sat Phones...
Cheers guys!

Wow @cherrysclau
That would be class.
I want to get over to Sydney as I follow a football team from there.
I even managed to get on Sydney radio talking about it.
Cheers

Hi I’m presently in Melbourne now, however my 4g isn’t working despite being on the Max plan and it being confirmed online and in store that it will work out here, can you look into this for me please
[mod edit: please do not post personal information such as phone numbers on the public board. Thanks!]

Hi @Dwasiuk1
Hope you're having a lovely time down-under so far. 🙂
Are you able to get normal connectivity on 2/3G?
Please try the troubleshooting below:-
Try re-booting your device
Try turning 4G off and back on again in ‘settings’
Perform a manual network search and select a different network operator:-
Let me know how you get on.

Just signed up to the community having upgraded phone and package to max plan two weeks ago. Advised phone would work automatically on arrival in Sydney but it doesn’t. No texts/calls etc. Get messages about exorbitant roaming charges but was advised would use normal allowance out here. Help please!

Hi @Sidon100uk
Thanks for coming to see us in community 🙂
Did you activate roaming before you went away?
Are you able to make calls and send texts?
Have you tried a manual network search?
If not, here is how you perform a manual network search.
Thanks

Hello Richard thank you for your speedy reply.
Yes I called EE a week before and they said I was all set up I can make calls. The only network I can use is Yes Optus. I get a message saying this network is not available with my simcard when I try Telsta and virgin.
