getting various messages, saying can't find server to server not responding?

As long as you have got the server name, smtp.123-reg.co.uk, & port correct you can't fail to connect to the SMTP server, even if you get everything else wrong, which will just result in an auth failure after connecting. Even I, who doesn't belong, can connect to it on ports 25 & 587.

Make sure you have smtp.123-reg.co.uk spelt correctly, with no spaces around it as I did 1st time.

What were the exact error msgs you got with the various ports?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

When I test the account settings, on port 25, it can find the server but an error message comes up and says 'unable to send test message. Please verify the email address'. On 465 it says 'the specified server was found, but there was no response from the server. Please verify that the port and ssl information is correct'

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

& what about port 587?

Don't use Outlook's auto test but test it yourself manually.

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

Talk to 123-Reg about their SMTP. It's not an EE issue.

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

I have been in touch with 123-Reg and it would appear that although my SMTP password was ok for Orange it wasn't good enough for 123-Reg. Therefore I have been advised to change my password and then I will be able to send emails?

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

You weren't using your Orange pwd with your 123-Reg SMTP, were you? Of course, that won't work. I repeatedly told you to authenticate it with the same as for the Incoming POP3 server, which is your 123-Reg credentials. I doubt you even need to change your pwd as you were't using the right one in the 1st place.

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

No I was not using my orange password with 123-reg, I was using the password I had always used with 123-reg but they had changed their password criteria and now the password needs to be more secure, something that wasn't a problem before EE/orange stopped the email service

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

Hi @4plus4morgan

Have you now managed to gain access by using a stronger password?

Many thanks,

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

It looks like I have solved the problem now. Outlook required that I
confirmed in its outgoing field that it needed authorisation. I have done
that now and it seems to work. Thank you for your assistance.

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

How many times did I say that? At least 3!

Which port did you end up using?

You're welcome :)! Glad I could be of assistance.

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

For god sake man, that was not the initial problem was it, it was the
password that needed changing. Don't make out you sorted the problem because
you didn't!
