Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

My mail server is with 123-Reg. I have changed the smtp to their settings but still cannot send emails, although I can receive them?

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

Talk to 123-Reg about their SMTP. It's not an EE issue.

SMTP for 123-Reg

@4plus4morgan: Who is your ISP? If it is EE you can't use a port 25 SMTP. Does 123-Reg have an authenticated non-port 25 SMTP you can use?

Yes it does! Use smtp.123-reg.co.uk on port 465 with SSL , authenticated the same as Incoming Server.

Port 25 has been unblocked over the EE broadband and mobile network since the email closure? 🙂

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

You're right, @Profile closed, I was forgetting my own doing Smiley Embarassed. I got this lifted so that users on EE BB whose email provider only had a Port 25 SMTP & who had previously been using the EE Port 25 SMTP to get round this could safely move to their email provider's Port 25 SMTP after the closure.

Just tried it successfully with AOL Port 25 SMTP :).

@4plus4morgan: You may use either of 123-Reg's SMTPs, ports 25 or 465. 465 is more secure as it uses SSL.

Re: SMTP for 123-Reg

Which port you using? Try the other port.

Have you told it that it needs authenticating on either port?

If 465 have you ticked SSL?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

I have successfully sent emails to myself using port 110, but I am then asked for my password and the server doesn't recognise it? Using any other setting or ticking SSL stops everything from connecting?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Eh? You don't send on port 110; that's only for receiving.

Who is your ISP?

What program or app are you using for email?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

EE are my ISP and I'm using outlook. When I send a test account setting I have a message saying that it can't login to to the outgoing mail server. I have tried changing the smtp port numbers to the ones you have suggested and ticking ssl, but it makes no difference, I can receive but not send messages? It is now set back to 25

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Look under the Advanced Settings... / Outgoing Server tab. Have you ticked My outgoing server needs authentication?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

If I tick that I get a message to say it does not recognise my password, even though it's correct?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Don't you just tick to use same as incoming server?

Have you tried both port numbers with and without SSL?

Don't rely on Outlook's auto testing but test it yourself manually.

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Yes I did tick that, receiving emails from you but having to reply on site and I can't return them! I have tried sending myself an email but it stays in the outbox file

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Keep that My server requires authentication on with same as incoming whatever you do.

Try ports 25, 465 and 587 with and without SSL in succession. One of them must work.

No, tried all of that, getting various messages, saying can't find server to server not responding?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Then the issue lies with 123Reg.

You sure you have your email username and password correct?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Yes defiantly correct. I can send emails if I send them from 123-reg webmail service?

Re: Orange Email closure: What do I need to do?

Sure but it doesn't help.

You now need to contact 123Reg about their SMTP. You may have to pay extra for it. Some do.
