I upgraded my phone and my sim has no service and it's been over 48 hours

I recently upgraded my phone from an IPhone 6 to IPhone 6s and I received a new sim, and I put it into my new phone and it shows no service, so I look online to see how long the sim usually takes to activate and found out it takes around 4-24 hours, however it's been more than double that time why does my sim still have no service?

@Dylank  Is your old sim still working?  If it is just put that in your new device.  But do keep the new SIM card just in case.

Yes my old sim is still working but won't the sim deactivate once my previous contract ends?

@Dylank  Not  necessarily as I'm still using the same Sim card which I got about five+ years ago.

If so then why did I receive this new SIM card? Was it's mistakenly sent or something?

@Dylank  Your number should of migrated across by now but it will make no difference if it doesn't.  Even if it does you can still put this in your new device if/when it does.

I see well thanks for that help, I'm not sure if this will be a long term solution but I'll see once I transition into my new contact.

Just a quick question.....did you upgrade direct with EE?

 

If you did you can certainly just follow the advice given by @Chris_B

 

It would only be if you upgraded through a third party such as Carphone Warehouse that you would need a new SIM.
