If you have no credit then you are unable to send a text. There is no 'FREE' emergency text option.

Orange used to let you send 5 or so a week via their online account but this isn't an option anymore.

Re: How to send a free emergency text when you run out of credit

Thanks for reply. When I tried to make a call "The Voice" advised me to top up by pressing 1 or to send a free text message to the person I was trying to call by pressing 2 and the hash key and said I would have an "inaudible number" left this month? Have tried to send text pressing # but didn't add recipient...not clever enough :(....and wonder if it will have been directed to the person I was trying to call or has it disappeared to # heaven? 🙂 Thanks again

Re: How to send a free emergency text when you run out of credit

This seems like an option that you are letting the person know that you have run out of minutes rather than sending a text to them.

I haven't heard of this before but then I have never had a PAYG sim. Is this a newish feature and what does it do?

If you are pressing it then it may be being sent. Is the other person on PAYG aswell? Maybe they have no credit.

Is there any other way to get hold of them and ask if they received it?

Re: How to send a free emergency text when you run out of credit

Will update as to outcome later when I top up and send a bona fide text! Just a facility I didn't think would be available and wondered if anyone else had any knowledge of it. Many thanks for your help.

Re: How to send a free emergency text when you run out of credit

Have just received a phone call back from person I was trying to call. Success! Press2 and hash results in text being sent telling receiver that I have no credit and can they call me! I am only on a £1 a week pack so am well impressed that this gives me the option of 5 free "get in touch texts" when I need to make a call and can't. Thanks very much for your help Brandon job's a gud 'un!

Re: How to send a free emergency text when you run out of credit

Thanks @Nan1 Smiley Happy

It's a nice little service that's available on EE Pay as you go!

You can use it up to five times in a month and a maximum of twice in one day.

Have a lovely evening!

Thanks - Karen. Smiley Happy
