I have had this for almost 2 years not done anything different and today I am told all 2gb data used and will be renewed on 13/2
This could be down to a number of things, it’s very common that an app might not of closed down or was running in the background which has taken your data.
If your phone allows, see if you can use any tool which shows you what data you’ve used.
If you’ll like to speak to EE, then give them a call and hopefully they can answer any of your questions.

I addition to @Ben090's answer, you can usually access data usage through the mobile data settings of your phone.
For more detailed instructions, please let me know the make and model of your phone.
