I'm currently on a T Mobile pay monthly plan. I'm now out of the UK and will be for at least a year. This means I'm paying £8 per month with no benefit. I have no need to use the SIM. Is it possible to change to a pay as you go plan without having to get a new SIM card? If I can do that then I'll just need to use the phone every 6 months so as to keep my number.

This isn't possible I'm afraid as they no longer supply T-Mobile sims.
They would need to send out an EE sim. But they don't ship abroad.
You could ask a friend or relative to post to you if you get the sim posted to their address. But this may leave you without service for a short while.

Thanks for the answer. I was hoping they could just alter my SIM within their system but that would be too easy, wouldn't it? I'll have to wait until I'm in a place where I can receive post and then maybe do it then.
I presume I can put some money on the SIM when I order it so that it's operable straight away.

Let me widen this question a bit.
As I said, I'm paying £8 per month for a SIM tat i don't use. The usage I'm paying for expires every month, so it's a real waste of money. I believed that with pay as you go I just needed to put some money on it and then use, or top it up, once every 180 days. Looking at EE, they seem to want me to top up every 30 days, which defeats the object. My main aim is to keep my phone number but at as small a cost as possibel. Any suggestions?

They every 30 days is for a PAYG pack. You can revert it to a normal PAYG though by texting a short code.
Being abroad it may be worth looking at aan abroad pack.
To keep your phone number would result in loss of service if you d the way I suggested before as the number would tranfer over to the new sim.

OK, thanks Brendon.
I'm not worried about losing service so getting a standard EE PAYG might be the answer.

Can you please give me a number I can call from abroad. I'll be using a different phone.
