Anyone noticed their phones data being eaten up by 'android OS' mines taking up 10 time more then usual.

Can you give a bit more info such as:
Also have you factory reset your phone recently?
Have you checked out your Data usage app to establish what apps are using data?

I have the Sony Z5 Premium
I've also got what I believe to be the latest version of Android (7.1.1)
I'm allocated 5 GB, which I normally use about 4 GB's of most months.
I don't really want to factory reset unless it's the last resort.
I'm using the data usage report that you can read within the settings

I can't disable android os. All the other apps are using the same amount. I want android os not to use as much, all the other amounts are fine 🙂

Try these Settings:
Settings / Connection / Data Usage / Menu button / Restrict Background.
Settings / More / About Device / Software Update / WiFi Only.

My updates are set on WiFi only, and I've recently restricted background data. Unfortunately, neither has helped my problem I'm afraid.

Has this only happened after an update?
If so then factory reset the phone.kt is always advised to factory reset after major updates at least.

No one wants to but if you back up you will be fine.
I don't know about Sony but when I back up my S8+ on my Smart Switch it restores it back to the way it was. Background, page layouts and all.
