How do I unpair my Apple Watch Series 3 or Apple Watch Series 4 from my iPhone?

In some cases you may need to unpair your Apple Watch, for example if you have a new iPhone, or have been requested to unpair your Apple Watch by our customer services team.

When you unpair your Apple Watch this will revert the watch back to factory settings.

The iPhone will create a back-up of your Apple Watch.

Follow the below steps to unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone:

  • Hold your iPhone and Apple Watch close together

  • Open the 'Watch app' on your iPhone

  • Make sure you're in the 'My Watch' tab and touch the banner at the top of the screen that has the name of your Watch in it.

  • Tap apple unpair I.pngnext to the Apple Watch that you would like to unpair

  • Tap 'Unpair Apple Watch'

  • If you're unpairing because of an issue you've been having, or you have upgraded to a new iPhone then you don't need to remove the data plan. At this point you will need to select ‘Keep Data Plan’

  • If you're re-pairing to another iPhone on your account and wish to take out another data plan you would select ‘Remove Data Plan’

  • Tap to confirm and then enter your Apple ID and password to complete the unpairing.

  • Now your Apple Watch will be ready to pair again.

Thanks for the informative post Smiley Happy

Has anybody followed this procedure after upgrading to the iPhone X and successfully kept their watch data plan?

Re: How do I unpair Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS+4G) from my iPhone?

I got my new iphone X from the apple store yesterday.  I unpaired my Ceramic S3 the same way as the instructions above.  Because i have an LTE data plan with my S3, the unpairing process asked me if I wanted to keep the data plan.  I selected that option so that when the watch unpaired, it saved the settings.

When i set up new iphone X and re-paired the watch, it all went through with no hassles and copied my data plan over.  So all good.

Re: How do I unpair Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS+4G) from my iPhone?

Another report here of successful migration - unpaired the watch from my iPhone 7, stating that I wanted to keep the data plan, and then after I had migrated my Phone data to the iPhone X, repaired the watch and it all worked fine.

I had no problems with the initial activation of my Watch when I got it, and was worried that moving phones would cause all sorts of problems, but it was easy.

Yes, I unpaired my Series 3 iWatch from my iPhone 7 plus remebering to keep the data plan, I then repaired to my new iPhone X and once synchronised the iWatch worked perfectly.

@leanne_T

Do I select keep or delete the plan if I have to have the watch replaced? I am having to have my watch replaced by Apple and they are sending me the replacement this week. So just need to figure out do I unpair and select keep the data or remove the data plan? Do you know if it’s straight forward to do or will I need to call someone while setting up the replacement watch?

Re: How do I unpair Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS+4G) from my iPhone?

Finally managed to get hold of an iPhone X (so many early mornings checking stock Smiley Tongue ) and re-pairing worked fine with data plan intact, so good work Apple/EE.

Re: How do I unpair Apple Watch Series 3 (GPS+4G) from my iPhone?

I changed my iWatch Series 3 watch today, whilst re-pairing I was asked if this new watch was replacing the old watch, I selected YES and then was given an error 03 contact EE on 150.

I contacted EE gave them the new EID and within two hours my replacement watch was working perfectly.

Lets hope the watch now now works perfectly on the network.

Did you have to unpair/re-pair the watch? I've also had to have my watch replaced and, despite Katie's best efforts, it's not connecting to 4G. It says the plan is in place but the watch constantly says 'no connection' under Settings/Mobile Data.

I also now have two watch data plans on my account because Katie created a new one for the replacement watch.

Anyway, I shall get back to the Watch team if it still fails to connect today.

Let's get started
