We're aware that some of you have been experiencing difficulties with Content Lock over the last couple of days. Sorry about this. An issue with our systems is causing content lock to apply the wrong parental setting on some devices, making some services unavailable.
If you're unexpectedly finding some websites unavailable on your phone, you should be able to restore your previous settings by switching the phone off or switching the phone to 'airplane mode' (iOS) or 'flight mode' (Android).
Apologies again for this issue. We are working hard to prevent this from reappearing.
Solved! See the answer below or view the solution in context.

Ive had the exact same problem for the past 4 weeks! usually it sorts its self out, but this has been consistant!
I have also had nothing but trouble since the switchover from Orange to EE....i am seriously thinking about going elsewhere, ive been with orange since i got my first mobile aged 14 (PAYG) since the age of 18 i have always had a contract with them, im now 25! Its ridiculous service and i think another company may benefit from my loyalty as EE arent bothered at all!

I have been having these issues for a number of months, turning my phone off and on again (or flight mode equivalent) does nothing to help.

Thank you for lettingus know you are aware of this.
Fisrt thing.... It has not been a few weeks. It's been 11 months since I first joined EE. I go through this at least once a month if not twice. There's been many phone calls to Customer Service and only on my last call last month someone said there are issues.
Second thing... This switch on/off business doesn't work. The Content Lock will stay on as long as it wants. Then when it goes back to OFF only then does a Restart work.
This sould not be happening for this length of time. Blocking sites like YouTube, Instagram, Facebook...
Wish I stayed with 3.

I have been having this problem since AUGUST 14th! all i am getting is fobbed off in the shops, via fb and over the phone! apparently the engineers are aware and it will be fixed in the next couple of days! so far this has been over 2 months!
this IS a BREACH of contract as the sites im accessing are general sites with no adult content!
you have said to offer a service so i keep my end of the bargain and pay for that service but EE have not kept there end!
i have now got so frustrated that i have referred to citizen advise! they have confirmed WE ARE IN OUR RIGHT TO CANCEL!
EE have BREACHED the contract!
no one will help me and im beyond frustrated now! today another adviser on the FB page has even said to me they are not denying they are in breach!!!
i cannot bare to be stuck in a contract until jult 2016! i want to go to a company who actually keeps there contracts and the customer services actually help!

This content lock is a joke, I'm on contract and 45 years of age, yet can't even get on facebook or youtube? Will not recommend EE again and will be leaving once my contract is up. It's 2014 and EE make millions from mugs like us, yet they can't fix a simple issue like this....... And they class themself as the best, what a BIG joke!!!!!!!

This is utterly pathetic, I have had the same intermittent content lock issues for 2 years as an EE customer.
I don't see why users paying 100s of pounds a month should be massively inconvenienced because some idiots can't keep their sprogs under control. Sort it out EE or I am off. As a grown adult if I want to watch bloody porn whilst travelling I should be able to too.
If I can't I will take my thousands of pounds a year fo spend elsewhere.
