phone upgrade due 23/01/18

My phone is due for an upgrade on the 23/01/2018 - however I want to upgrade now : is there any way of avoiding costs to do this please.

Not by avoiding costs. You made a contract till Jan 2018 & you can't get outta it for free.

 

Cost of cancelling or upgrading early will be Monthly Fee x Months Remaining, pro-rata to the nearest whole day, of contract term - VAT (16.7%). VAT is not due on termination fees.
