Text messages

Hi there,

I recently purchased an EE SIM and I wanted to text my family back home in South Africa. I receive their texts, I just can't send a text to them.

Also, I can call them. But they can't call me.

What can I do about this?

Re: Text messages

Hi @Kesh05

Under text message settings, make sure your message centre number is +447958879879

Also make sure you have enough credit if you text a SA number.

Thanks,

To contact EE Customer Services dial 150 From your EE mobile or 07953 966 250 from any other phone.

EE standard opening hours are 8am to 9pm weekday, 8am to 8pm on weekends.

Re: Text messages

Hello there @Kesh05

Thanks for coming to the community.

Do you have credit on your account to call and text South Africa?

If you text BALANCE to 150, what reply do you get?

Leanne.

Re: Text messages

Hi Leane,

I'm not sure. The lady at the airport who sold this pack to me did not tell
me there's different packs. I was upset but also drained from the travel so
I just accepted it.

Thanks

Re: Text messages

Your PAYG pack does not cover calling or texting non-UK nos. from the UK. They count as International calls & texts and are chargeable. To make them you need to have sufficient PAYG credit on your phone.

International calls & texts to overseas nos. from UK can be rather expensive but EE has a free add-on that anyone, on PAYG or contract, can apply for to give these calls & texts at a fraction of the standard rates. See The Free CALL ABROAD Add-on for Cheap Calls/Texts from UK .

You have linked roaming costs when abroad, not International costs from the UK.

Re: Text messages

Hi @Kesh05

Do you have the international pack with us?

If so, our £10 International pack provides all the UK data and texts you need, plus a minutes allowance that can be used to call both within the UK and to 34 international destinations including South Africa.

This would be calls only and not texts, they would be charged.

Re: Text messages

@Leanne_T: I think the International Packs are less beneficial than the free CALL ABROAD add-on especially when they don't include International texts which the OP is after.

Re: Text messages

Thanks @XRaySpeX

I think @Kesh05 may already be on an International pack at the moment which is why calls are working but not texts.

Thanks for helping 🙂

Re: Text messages

Oh, yes, @Leanne_T, you are right. OP is on an International Pack.

You can still add CALL ABROAD to an International Pack & get the best of both worlds Smiley Wink.
