Hi,

EE don't release information on updates.  You are best off installing BTU firmware from Sam's mobile unless you need VOWIFI.

Thanks

Re: Security patch level still on May 2016

Sadly EE hardly ever release updates.  They treat them as an inconvenience.

Many of us have tried to get an explanation. The media help staff are fed a pack of lies to feed to us.  EE are the absolute worst in the UK at handset security patches on ALL handsets. They will blame anyone but themselves and fob you off until your handset is obsolete/defunct.   I posted a list somewhere on here of where all the other telcoms providers where up to on S6 updates and EE were rock bottom and months behind EVERYONE.

As northerner said your best option would be to install the BTU unbranded version from Samsung.  You will lose EE wifi calling but gain regular security patches.   Samsung say Nougat is coming to S6 in the first half of this year.  I would be shocked and amazed if EE EVER get around to releasing that patch.

Here we go i'll post it here.   Not that anyone from EE will care.  It will be Samsung's fault most likely, or whatever other horse **bleep** they come up with this week.

Updates received by UK Carriers & Dates provided - BTU=unbranded direct from Samsung.

Re: Security patch level still on May 2016

I dont have access to those sorry.  Not gone into them very deep as I dont own the devices.  I was led to believe that the firmware from the Pixel was direct from Google and not carrier branded?!

I only have until May with this S6.  Personally I cant see me getting an EE update before then.

Re: Security patch level still on May 2016

Thanks

I don't think any phones firmware through EE will be stock so they'll have control over updates, even on a pixel.

You're the same as me contact renews in May, i've already suggested to EE they're leaving phones that are 2 years old and will only update new devices but i've had no feed back.

Re: Security patch level still on May 2016

I think Nexus devices were not branded.  My father's last 2 were not anyway but not sure if that's co-incidence.  Google seem to like to take control of the updates in a similar way to Apple.

I think they're holding off and only releasing major updates if anything for the 2yrs you own the handset.  Keep everyone hanging on as long as possible and fobbing them off until contract is up and they move to the next handset.  Updates are a headache for them.  They do not realize that now handsets have become as powerful as a computer they need regular security patches.   I still maintain that nothing will be done unless there is a media furore about security and/or a high profile person's handset is exploited.  They might all wake up then and take it seriously.

Rumor has it Nougat is due out end of 3rd week Feb for S6 and 4th week for S6 Edge.  Samsung Turkey have let slip on an announcement.

Re: Security patch level still on May 2016

Even if EE releasd it this week i'm looking for a total change in policy for all Android devices.

There's no reason not to do it properly.
