I've had mine for 3 months and mine is doing the same, it 'tries' to reboot itself after turning off but will only reboot if connected to the charger.
I will go to me EE store and DEMAND a new battery armed with all the information gathered on these pages.... thanks guys.

Samsung should really be replacing the battery under warranty if it is swelling.
But if you want a cheap replacement try Amazon or eBay.

I've had my Samsung S4 about 9 months and about 3 months ago it started switching off randomly. This increased in frequency so I bought a new battery off Amazon and found the problem DIDNT go away. I took the phone into my EE store who sent it away. I instructed to put in the notes that the battery has been replaced. Alas it has come back with just the battery being replaced and a factory reset and the problem remains. Tomorrow I am off into the store again to get the phone sent away. If that comes back again with the same fault at what point can I demand a new phone if I can? I am paying a contract and still got one year to go.

My S4 turned off randomly since 9 months. It wouldn't turn back on unless I plugged it in (the wall or in my pc). It was still in guarantee when this started. They (Samasung) kept if for a month and then I got it back 'repaired'. But not really. I searched on internet. Cleaning the battery-contacts, both sides, changing the battery. Opening it up completely. It got a little better, but still never went down to 15% of battery. Lately it went back to shut down at 91% or so frequently.
I started to open it again completely, but was halted for some reason (my wife or the telly). So it stayed there without it's Samsung S View Cover ... Quickly I discovered it didn't turn off. I put on another cover I had laying somewhere, without magnet (which the S View cover has). And since then : no more turning off. For the first time since long I got a message that my battery was at 15%.
My Samsung S View Cover has been making all this trouble All this time. There's nothing been wrong with my beautiful Galaxy S4 !
I didn't find this information anywhere on the net. So here it is, hoping somebody will benefit from my experience.
