S8 screen broke but still receiving messages etc...

My Galaxy S8 devices' screen no longer works for no apparent reason. It flashed up with green bars but a hard restart sorted it out. The day after, the screen was completely black and no hard restart would sort it. I even tried rebooting the phone (power+bixby+up vol)but nothing happened. However, I am still receiving messages as I can hear the tones. I can also take screen shots, by pressing the power and down vol key. I am not able to access my phone via a PC as USB debugging has not been activated on my device. EE has advised to bring the phone into the store but warned me that they will wipe it. However, there are a lot of priceless photos and documents on the phone I need. Anyone know how to fix the screen, or know why it's not working. Also, how to access the phone via PC without any screen? Thanks.

Hi @JazJay

Welcome to the community.

It seems like you've tried most of the steps that we'd usually ask you to follow.

Have you spoken to Samsung directly?

They may be in a better position to give you some advice.

Re: S8 screen broke but still receiving messages etc...

I have just returned from an EE store, to be told that there is no way to access my phone via a PC and that if I were to send it off, they would wipe it, which isn't an option for me. They just confirmed that the screen is broke.

Sending it to samsung would result in it being wiped as well.

It may well be something you'll have to live with I'm afraid.

Have you tried starting it up into safe mode.

  1. Turn the device off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key past the model name screen.
  3. When "SAMSUNG" appears on the screen, release the Power key.
  4. Immediately after releasing the Power key, press and hold the Volume down key.
  5. Continue to hold the Volume down key until the device finishes restarting
  6. .Safe mode will display in the bottom left corner of the screen.
  7. Release the Volume down key when you see Safe Mode.
