Network locked Sony devices and unlockable bootloaders

First post, so hello everyone! 🙂

Many moons ago, I had the Xperia Z1 and discovered that whilst SIM free versions of Sony devices have unlockable bootloaders, network locked devices do not.

Is this still the case?  Can anyone with a recent Sony device confirm?

Reviews pending, and presuming EE stock it, I'm looking at the XZ Premium as my upgrade in June and the ability to unlock its bootloader will be one of the main deciding factors into whether I pull the trigger or not.

Hi,

Aren't they locked by default by Sony.

You can unlock the bootloader via Sony site here.

Thanks,

Thanks.

Yes, you can unlock network free, unbranded devices that way, but as I found out to my annoyance after buying the Z1, network locked devices you can't.

I'm keen to see if that policy has changed.

This would nt have changed.

They will still be locked.

Your best bet would to ask on XDA forum as you would find more users who would do this there rather than on here.
