My new phone doesn't work

I have a new phone, a Sony Xperia. It arrived two weeks ago. I put in the new sim and activated it online, it still isn't working? I have no contacts, I have tried to transfer from my old iPhone 4, no mail or telephone/ texts. Why isn't my new phone on??? The old mobile no longer works since I did the sim activation. Help!
