When i use my Samsung S7 to make calls sometimes i loose mobile data connection while i'm on phone. Sometimes however it's perfectly fine. I noticed this yesterday i was on the phone to a friend; i had 4G when she rang however during the call i lost all forms of mobile data, as soon as i ended the call within 30 seconds i had mobile data back
However this dones't always happen seems to be sporadic when it happens. As far as i know i've got everything turned on setting wise that i would need

It's a complete loss of mobile data, the icon that indicates whether you have mobile data on in the notification bar disappears (Like when you actually turn of mobile data on the phone). It doesn't seem to be location specific as i tend to get it everywhere, however i notice it most when i'm in my flat (as that's where i use my mobile data most)

That sounds like the handset is dropping all the way down to 2G for calls as 2G won't allow calls and data at the same time.

Why would it do that, if i had 4G before the call came in why would it suddenly loose 4G in the 1ft difference in distance between my desk and my ear?

4G calling is only available on Galaxy S7's purchased directly from EE.
When you make or receive a call, your phone will drop down to 3G. If 3G is not available, your phone will drop to 2G.
If you are connected to 2G, you won't be able to use data while on a call.
