I am receiving rogue photo/video messages asking me to log in with my phone

I am worried.  I am receiving texts which appear to be from my family asking me to log in with my phone number and a given password to view a video/photo.  They have definitely not sent me any photos or videos.  What does this mean?  Is this a security problem.  I have tried to log in with my phone number and the given password because I thought the messages were genuine.  Password doesn't actually work except for once when it did on one of the texts and something seemed to be taking a long time to download so I got worried and switched my phone off completely.  Do I need to do anything please?

@WorriedLady4    It’s not a third party It’s a glitch in EE systems.   It’s been happening for quite awhile now and your  not the first and you will not be the last to get this.

@WorriedLady4  It could be one of a few things.    Is the sender using an iPhone ? And do you have an iPhone ?  If so have you received a message via iMessage that had a image on it ?

I haven't got an iPhone.  My phone is a Moto G4 play. Neither do my supposed senders have iPhones.

@WorriedLady4  Ok that rules that one out.

There is however an on going issue with mms and users are  receiving these “you have a mms” message when a mms hasn’t been set at all.      Your not alone with this as I’ve had them once or twice.

Hi @WorriedLady4 and welcome to the community.

What was the link you were asked to go to?

Many thanks,

https://get.mms.ee.co.uk/MNVO/ Your message is valid for 7 days.  This is the message I receive but the sender mentioned is from people I know but they definitely haven't sent me anything.  There is no doubt about this.

Re: I am receiving rogue photo/video messages asking me to log in with my phone

@Lee_H  This is the same.  Phantom MMS Messages That have been Happening For A Few Years Now.

The Sender is From Your Phone Book on Your Device When You Use The Links And Passsword Provided There is no Message And if You go in ask the Person Who Sent The Message They Know Nothing About it.

I know the iPhone has an issues if iMessage has a phone and email address to send from.  I had a imassage with an image and about 2 hours later I got a MMS link from the mobile  number of the device that sent the iMessage image.

I wonder what is the point of these phantom messages.  What is to be gained by a third party.

This is exactly what I am getting, if it’s a glitch with EE then at least I know it’s not some scam?

Thanks Katie! Yeah it happens quite frequently and I just ignore it , but they always choose my technophobe contacts 😂 which
arouses suspicion right away?

The photo is not loading, is it possible for you to just send the link @StevEE64?

Re: I am receiving rogue photo/video messages asking me to log in with my phone

This looks like a normal link we send for a photo message which has been sent to you @StevEE64

Did you receive a password?

Re: I am receiving rogue photo/video messages asking me to log in with my phone

The following is a copy of the text with password , usually it does not connect to anything when I have followed the link in the past .

A Photo/Video message was sent to you but couldn't be delivered. A notification on how to view this message will follow shortly. Your password is: ********

This is fine @StevEE64

I have just been able to access the link, if you wish to retrieve the photo/video sent I would recommend following the instructions on your text.

Thanks,

Katie 🙂
