Are you having it delivered to store, after buying online?
I will likely get into trouble for this post, but if it was me I wouldn't. You have 14 days to reject any upgrade if you purchased it online. Just call EE and tell them you don't want to upgrade, be prepared for the hard sell.
I would likely wait for the 5G devices if you are in the roll out areas.

Any existing orders will be fine. Google has confirmed that services like Google Play and security from Google Play Protect will keep working on your existing Huawei device. Huawei has also confirmed that existing customers will continue to receive security updates and after sales service.
We'll continue to work closely with Google and Huawei and will provide further detail as we receive it.
