Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Hi

I received update G930FXXU1DQJ3/G930FEVR1DQJ1/G930FXXU1DQIL a few hours ago for my Galaxy S7.

Since updating, the home screen now has a large empty space at the top of the screen between the notification & status bar and my apps/widgets.

It's a pretty big piece of screen real estate to lose and just looks wrong being empty (apart from the wallpaper).  Is anyone experiencing the same or has a fix?  Thanks

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Hi,

Have you tried factory resetting your phone. You should do this after any major update.

Also you could try setting your wallpaper again.

Thanks

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Hi @MatthewS,

What occupied that part of the screen before you upgraded?

I've had to add widgets such as the clock back onto the home screen after major updates in the past.

Thanks

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Thanks all

@James_BPreviously, the apps and widgets filled the space.  It's like there's now padding at the top that's pushed the apps and widgets down.  So there's just a large void between the notification & status bar and where my apps/widgets begin.

Have tried:

Changing the wallpaper

Changing the theme

Changing screen resolution

Changing Screen zoom and font

Wiped system cache

Bunch of other things I've forgotten

I'll try the factory reset later when near power.  Thanks again

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Hi @MatthewS,

Just to double check before you factory reset, are you able to drag apps into the space?

Thanks

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Hi @James_B

No, I'm not able to drag apps or widgets into the space.  I can hover apps over it, but they drop/snap into the nearest empty container below.

OK @MatthewS, worth a try!

Let us know if the factory reset helps.

Hi

Unfortunately a factory reset hasn't fixed it.

Hi @MatthewS

Have you noticed any talk on the Samsung forums or XDA developers in regards to this?

Many thanks,

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Hi @Lee_H

Yes, I found the following thread on the XDA developers forum

https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/help/free-space-home-screen-update-t3650504

It describes the same issue I'm having, but it's on other phones and carriers.  Sadly no fix suggestions other than to roll back the firmware version.  I haven't found discussion of this problem anywhere else.

@MatthewS

Dial *#1234# and share the info please. Want to see if there is a pattern here and if it is happening from certain firmware from same region/network.

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Hi @MatthewS

Now I have seen the pictures I have now noticed the same on my S8+

I can only assume it's a launcher/grid layout oddity.

Thanks

You are right there is a gap on top of my S8+ But I never noticed if it has changed or not.

@MatthewS so you have EE firmware others seem to have XEO so not really a pattern.

I have BTU (Oreo Beta)

I guess the only solution is what was mentioned in the XDA forum.

Wait for a patch or revert back a firmware.

Re: Galaxy S7 update home screen spacing

Thanks for looking everyone.  Sorry you guys have the oddity too, although with all that extra screen on the S8+, I'm not too sorry 😉

I'll wait for a patch/update.
