Please, can I get you to clear the cache and data storage of the messaging app to see if that helps?

I did try that before I forced stop the app.
Now after a forced stopped it both the cache and data are zero and greyed out as is the enable and forced stop buttons.
Not sure what this app does and thus what I have lost?
Originally was trying everything to solve the on going annoying Google play problem of not downloading updates - solved that for now but created this other issue.
Any help would be welcome.
