My wife’s phone now refuses my texts - why?
Also other random people- they aren’t blocking me, I’ve checked.
is there a particular format one must write the numbers in contacts ? I notice whatsapp uses the country code but I’ve never needed it before .
any help much appreciated

Have you checked your local network for issues?
Make sure your message centre number is +447958879879
If you have done nothing and changed no settings then there is no reason text shouldn't be received, unless the issue is with the recipients phones/carriers.

Somewhere like Messaging app's Settings / More Settings / Text Msgs.

I’ve searched in the two apps I have and the general settings and can’t find it
Click on messages - (three dots) - settings - more settings - text messages and it's the bottom option.
You say you have checked two app, which one are you using and having problems with as i'm assuming it's the native Samsung messages app.

Right so you have two text messaging service. I would suggest there maybe a conflict.
Firstly try resetting your apps preferences, so settings - apps -(thread dots) - reset app preferences.
Has that worked?
If not then uninstall textra and try the same app resetting process.
Has that worked?

No that didn’t work then I noticed the country code and a zero was included at the number for some reason and no matter how I re-edited it was the same so I deleted and re entered the contact and it works!
i still can’t send MMS though
