Android Pay stopped working on HTC One M9

My HTC One M9 has stopped doing the Android Pay thing when I move the phone over the pay terminal, since the morning of the 23rd Feb (last Thurs).  The terminal clearly recognises the phone, and the phone clearly recognises that a terminal is attempting to extract the necessary details, as the terminal beeps and the phone vibrates, but for some reason the Android Pay screen with the "tick" doesn't appear and the terminal either displays an error message or asks me to insert a card instead.

 

This happened to me in Tesco yesterday and WHSmith this morning.

 

The only thing I can think of that has happened since is that I upgraded the mobile from Android 6.0 to 7.0 on Thurs evening when EE finally approved the upgrade.

 

Does this sound familiar to anyone?  So how do I get it working again?

Go into settings - Application manager, find the app and clear the cache/storage.

Thanks both.

 

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app.  Pay terminal beeped twice and wouldn't accept it, mobile buzzed but nothing.

 

Tried removing app data.  Same as above.

 

Tried turning off PIN, then went into app and it removed all the cards.  Readded my card, verified, asked to set a PIN, all looks OK.  Same as above.

 

The only thing I can think of is possibly a bug with the EE-approved firmware?

Hi @realtestman,

 

It might be worth getting in touch with your card provider to rule out a security issue at their end.

 

I've had contactless payments declined before and it turned out to be a random security check by by bank.

Might do so, although I note two things:

 

1 - the original card works fine via contactless and chip & pin

2 - the same card was allowed to be added to Android Pay

It may still be worth checking with the bank to make sure everything's OK.

 

It may need to be re-registered with the bank.

 

The only other thing I could think of with it happening after the update, is to back up and factory re-set your device.

 

Did you do the update over the air?

I am having the exact same issue, it's really embarrassing. I only use android pay when I forget my wallet so have to hand all the stuff back and leave empty handed. 

All worked fine until I updated to latest OS version.

Hi

 

I'm still having the same issue, even with the latest Android Pay update.  Again the original card works fine.  I did call up the bank and there was nothing on my account that would indicate that contactless would be blocked.

 

That said, it seems that OnePlus 3T owners are experiencing the exact same problem.  There, the current thinking is that the original version of Nougat (i.e. 7.0) is the problem, which is the exact version HTC's build for the One M9 is on.  Supposedly OnePlus are working with Google on a fix, but I don't know if the fix has already been delivered as part of the original latest version of Android 7.1.2 yet, let alone HTC's builds of the 7.1.x branch, if they exist for One M9.

Is there anymore news on this? Also are you aware of anymore similar complaints from other ee customers with the one m9?

I hear that HTC have released an Android update for the One M9, including the latest security update....

 

Do you know if EE will be making this available and if so, will it fix the NFC Tap & Pay function that is currently still broken?
