ipv6 and ipv4 literals on dell wireless 5570 HSPA+ and EE data sim

Hi,

Since about October last year EE enabled me IPv6 on my simcard (I was upgrading from previous plan and the new data sim card arrived with IPv6 enabled).

It works most of the time without proeblem, the only issue I'm having is accesing hosts on the public internet, where I call these by IPv4 address directly (IPv4 literals)

Then there is no route to host. DNS64/NAT64 appears to work without fails as I can connet to host when I call these by the host whery only A records are present.

I'm having issues connecting  to my VPS'es, if I'm provided only IPv4, without hostname poinitng to it. I'm aware of 464XLAT however there appears to be no wokring solution for Windows 10.

Any isnight how can I deal with this isse ? Currently using DNS assigned by EE DHCP.

I'm working on Dell laptop with windows 10 and cennecting using built in 3g modem dell wireless 5570 (Sierra Wireless MC8805).

Hi @jackalek and welcome to the Community

I will certainly try and assist, is there any menu you that you can find to manually allow you to change the APN settings of the SIM?

Many thanks,

Yes, I have acsess to the APN settings. If you are reffering to the "orangeinternet" APN I've tried that. I've tried to force it to IPv4 but then it won't connect at all.

Is there a way to force it to IPv4 or is there any other way to connect to IPv4 literals (like to ping IP 8.8.8.8)

Re: ipv6 and ipv4 literals on dell wireless 5570 HSPA+ and EE data sim

Good Morning @jackalek

Are you able to try adding the following APN:

Name Internet

APN everywhere

Proxy Leave Blank

Port Leave Blank

Username Leave Blank

Password Leave Blank

Server Leave Blank

MMSC http://mms/

MMS Proxy 149.254.201.135

MMS Port 8080

MCC 234

MNC 30

Authentication Type PAP

APN Type If you have choices select internet + mms otherwise type in *

Sorry if this is something that you've already tried - let me know how it goes!

Re: ipv6 and ipv4 literals on dell wireless 5570 HSPA+ and EE data sim

I've tried the settings you metioned, with eesecure username and without.

I also tried orangeinternet as APN.

Always when I select IPv4 it will not connect, if I leave default it will connect over IPv6 and I have no access to IP literals.

Just to show what I'm about:

From my BT broadband (which is IPv4):

C:\Users\aaa>ping 8.8.8.8

Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=10ms TTL=53
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=9ms TTL=53
Reply from 8.8.8.8: bytes=32 time=9ms TTL=53

Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
Packets: Sent = 3, Received = 3, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 9ms, Maximum = 10ms, Average = 9ms
Control-C
^C
C:\Users\aaa>

from EE broadband:

C:\Users\aaa>ping 8.8.8.8

Pinging 8.8.8.8 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.1.104: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.104: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.104: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.1.104: Destination host unreachable.

Ping statistics for 8.8.8.8:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),

Where IPv6enabled hosts I can ping no problem

So how do I access IPv4 from EE broadband ?

Hi @jackalek

Sorry to hear that didn't work!

You'll need to speak to our technical department - they can run further diagnostics for you.

If you give customer services  a call, or use live chat if you're a personal customer they'll be able to put you through.

Re: ipv6 and ipv4 literals on dell wireless 5570 HSPA+ and EE data sim

Hi.

Thanks for the tip, I've tried this twice but I got to support drones asking me to switch thing on and off and the most advenced technical advise was to set up the APN, which I did  years ago!! Have you got a way to contact someone who has knwoledge, is not patronizing and understands the subject ? (IP address, ping etc)

I woud appreciate if you have contact for such a departemnt.

Never managed to get to the level 2, the problem is when you call they start telling you to switch things on and off. how do I bypass this to get to the right people ?

Hi @jackalek

When you speak to level 1 advise you have tried everything previous and ask to be transferred through to level 2.

Many thanks,
